Bobby on board for 2011/12
This Season HDHC have secured the services of one of the premier coaches in the Yorkshire region. Bobby Bhogal has experience of coaching at the very highest level in England and is the current British Asian Sports coach of the year. Bobby is also still playing at the very highest level and is currently a member of the England Master squad.
huddersfielddragonshc.co.uk caught up with Bobby at a recent training session to get a brief look at the person behind the coaching board…
How long have you played hockey - 27yrs
First memory of Hockey – Running round the house with an odd shaped cricket bat!
Previous clubs played/coached – Well serious hockey I have played for Welton, Barford Tigers and Southgate. Coaching wise i am currently undertaking the following :
Huddersfield Dragons Hockey Club – Head Coach
England Junior Regional Performance Centre – Men’s U18 Head Coach
Cannock HC (Women’s Premier League) – Assistant Coach
Ashpal Bhogal (Daughter and England International) – Personal Coach
Previous positions I have held include:
Yorkshire U12/14/16′s Indoor and Outdoor – Head Coach
Yorkshire Women’s Senior Squad – Head Coach
Middlesex Men’s Senior Squad – Head Coach
England Junior Regional Performance Centre Men’s U15/16′s – Lead Coach
Harrogate Hockey Club Ladies – Head Coach
Leeds Met Uni Men’s – Head Coach
Best Hockey moment both playing and coaching – Playing; Scoring against India in a training game at Bisham, Scoring on my premier league debut with Southgate against the current GB keeper. Coaching wise would have to be watching my daughter step out to represent England as an international and the first British Asian female to do so. This after a 10 year coaching programme. Result!
What advise you’d give to someone thinking of taking up the sport – Choose a club with a very good coaching programme. (Editors note – HDHC fit the bill right Bobby!)
Your expectations of HDHC players for the coming season – Enjoy training, enjoy playing and enjoy winning.

Pet hate when coaching – Rain!. can’t use the coaching board

Assisting Bobby this year will be his Daughter Ashpal (Ash). Ash is currently playing Women’s premier hockey for Cannock HC and as mentioned above is a England international and with such became the first British Asian female to represent the country. So it was only fair we asked Ash the same questions…..
