HDHC 3 – 4 Leeds University
Huddersfield resumed their season after an even longer than expected mid season break but their early play showed no sign of rustiness. Some of the passing was not as slick as it could have been, they were good in possession and looked comfortable at the back. A number of excellent attacking moves were created early on and it was no surprise that Huddersfield opened the scoring. Man of the Match Steve Durrans was played in by Jimmy Swinden and then wrong footed the defence by faking to pass, turning and smashing a reverse stick shot high into the net.
Unfortunately as has been the case for much of the season Huddersfield struggled to hold onto the lead for any length of time. Leeds hit back from a short corner before Huddersfield re-gained the lead again through Durrans only to let it slip before half time to another Leeds short corner.
In the second half Leeds gained confidence as they sensed a much needed win and as the game opened up chances were created at both ends. Huddersfield couldn’t take theirs to get a lead and then found themselves chasing the game as Leeds took the lead for the first time in the match. Huddersfield showed character to level the match at 3-3 from a Jimmy Swinden drag flick but they couldn’t find the killer touch to win the game and decisions in the Leeds area seemed to go against them in the final stages of the game. They were then punished as Leeds scored a winner with minutes to go to seal the game 4-3.
