HDHC 8 – 1 Doncaster
Huddersfield went into their last game before the Christmas break on the back of 2 excellent results looking to improve further. They did not disappoint, starting very strongly with superb passing and moving taking place between all 11 on the pitch. Doncaster, whom Huddersfield beat 4-0 earlier in the season could not get a foot hold in the game and found themselves camped in their own half.
It wasn’t long before Huddersfield took the lead, a penalty corner strike from Olly Clark finding the back of the net. Shortly after, Clark scored his second, a deflected shot wrong footing the Doncaster keeper. Man of the match Kelly worked hard in midfield defending well and providing some telling passes that allowed Huddersfield to remain fully in control, three further goals came before half time, all of them the result of some superb team play. Nicky Elson converted well, Jonny Beaumont scored his first shortly after and just before half time, Aiden Blackburn followed up well to leave Doncaster demoralised.
The second half saw Huddersfield lose a little of their tempo and Doncaster gradually began to get more ball possession, however the defence that had had little to do in the first half dealt with any threat well meaning Bob McCallum only touched the ball four times in the entire match! It took 20 minutes of the second half for Huddersfield to convert their 6th, Beaumont finishing another great team move. Superb skill from Elson resulted in him finding Beaumont again who calmly completed his hatrick. In a rare trip into the Huddersfield half, an adjudged deliberate back stick in the Huddersfield D saw a controversial penalty flick being awarded to the away side. It was converted well but only spurred Huddersfield on again. The rout was finished when Clark completed his hatrick five minutes from the end. An all round excellent team performance which allows the side to go into the break brimming with confidence and optimism for the second half of the season.
