HDHC 2 – 1 Halifax
The ladies 3rd team were determined to pick themselves up after last week’s disappointing performance and finish for the Christmas break in a promotion slot.
The game started well for the Dragons with plenty of possession and some good attacking play. It was early in the half when a penalty corner was awarded and Bland put the ball away on the rebound. The home side continued to attack and any counter attacks were dealt with swiftly by the defence in particular Hamer and Dunne. It was probably only the visitors second time in the Dragons D when they managed to level the score. However the home team were not going to let this one slip away and quickly added to their tally when Hamer, having been denied her first strike at yet another penalty corner, reclaimed the ball taking it impressively round two defenders before slipping it through the keepers legs.
After halftime the team continued to work hard, in particular midfielders Cannon, Fielding, Bailey and Bates, to prevent a much younger Halifax side making a break and levelling the score again. At the other end, despite numerous penalty corners, the 3s were unable to increase their lead but it didn’t matter because it was enough to take the full three points. Man of the match was Hamer but mention has to be made of keeper Martin playing with a broken finger. The team now enter the Christmas break sitting in 2nd promotion spot.
