Ladies 2XI (A) Bradford & Bingley 12/12/2009

Bradford & Bingley 2 – 2 HDHC

A must win game for the dragons to go into the Christmas break in a promotion spot but it just wasn’t to be, in a game where goals were conceded that in other games wouldn’t have been and shots were missed which on other days would have gone in, luck wasn’t on the Dragons side.

Dragons were caught off guard early on when poor defending allowed Bradford put an easy shot past goal keeper Townend.  Dragons pulled their socks up and got stuck in and Green converted a penalty corner with a sweet strike from the top of the D.  Dragons settled and started to play some excellent passing hockey which led to their second goal, Dexter passing the ball to Walters in midfield who slotted the ball through to Green who put away a trademark reverse stick shot.

After the break Dragons once again looked one step behind as Bingley seemed determined to take some points from the game and were rewarded with an equaliser early on.  Dragons once again responded with some periods of excellent play and put pressure on the Bradford defence with countless attacks all of which proved fruitless.  It seemed the Huddersfield side had been given the lifeline they needed when in the final seconds of the game a Bradford defender cleared the ball off the line with her foot, a certain penalty stroke.  It was however one of those games and the decision was given against the Huddersfield side by the Bradford referee and the game finished at 2-2.  A point at least but the Dragons now need to return after the festivities with a renewed sense of urgency and determination to ensure the promotion that is easily within their reach.
