Ladies 1XI (H) City of York 12/12/2009

HDHC 3 – 1 City of York

The Dragons Ladies 1s gave themselves an early Christmas present this Saturday by sending York home with a stocking empty of points, taking three for themselves in what was a great team performance at Lockwood.

The home team took the early lead from a cleverly worked short corner and a finish by Rebecca Durrans.  Unfortunately York answered with a short corner strike of their own to leave it 1-1 at half time.  Dragons weren’t giving up easily and came out fighting in the second half, retaining possession and using intelligent passing strategies.  A brilliant and simple short corner strike from Kelly Fillingham took it to 2-1 for the home side, who, no doubt in fear of another 2-2 draw, fought to put another away courtesy of some quick thinking in open play by Hannah Higginbotton, Hester Longstaff and finisher Rebecca Durrans.

Three points for Christmas then, for a team who will take that win into what they will strive to make a season-changing January. Man of the match went to the day’s goal scorer, Rebecca Durrans.

Player of match – Becky Durrans

Fool of day -

Goal(s) – Durrans(2), Fillingham
