Mens 2XI (H) Rotherham 05/12/2009

HDHC 5 – 3 Rotherham

A lacklustre start to the game saw the dragons have to do something they are not accustomed to this season, come from behind.  Rotherham’s opener seemed to awaken Huddersfield who started moving the ball with more conviction.  Elson levelled the score with a rebound after his initial shot was saved.  Within minutes the dragons made it two. Clark taking a five metre hit to himself before unleashing a reverse tomahawk from the top of the circle.  Rotherham equalled to make the game 2-2 at half time.

A stern half time team talk saw the dragons start the second half with a whole new determination, one that their spectators would be more used to seeing.  Three penalty corners effectively killed the game off and handed Huddersfield another three points.  First Lee was on hand to finish calmly after the initial shot had been saved.  Foo continued his rich vein of form when some fantastic close control lead to him beating three defenders before the goalkeeper and Shimmel finished the scoring with a deflection past the despairing Rotherham defence.

A special mention must go to man of the match Rich Sugden.  The Dragons will miss his dynamism whist he spends the rest of the winter months enjoying the slopes of the French alps.

Huddersfield have now faced every team in the division. The second half of the season sees the dragons with some tough away games but having only dropped eight points and conceded 13 goals the immediate future still looks bright.

Man of match – Rich Sugden

Fool of day – James Cowden

Goal(s) – Elson, Clark, Lee, Foo B, Shimmel
