Leeds Adel Carneige 2 – 2 HDHC
Huddersfield fought hard for a point in Leeds on Saturday and although they had to comeback from 2-0 to secure it they will still feel they could have won the game with better finishing. Huddersfield had a promising start and had the majority of the possession in a fast high tempo start to the game. Jimmy Swinden and Hirst both had shots saved by the keeper but besides that they struggled to create many chances. Leeds then hit Huddersfield on the break and scored against the run of play, after this they gained more confidence and begun to put the Huddersfield defence under more pressure.
Huddersfield then paid for a lapse in concentration, as they argued a poor decision Leeds broke down the pitch to pass round the keeper to make it 2-0. Just before half time Huddersfield created the move of the match with Swinden playing a great first time pass to Pemberton who squared the ball to man of the match Simon Courtney who finished a lung bursting run with a diving finish to get Huddersfield right back in it at 2-1
In the second half Huddersfield came out hard and outworked Leeds giving them much less time on the ball and forcing errors which helped them create a string of chances which unfortunately they couldn’t put away. Swinden and Lovatt both had good chances to equalise and it was Swinden who did find the goal from a penalty corner. After this Huddersfield really tested the Leeds defence but couldn’t get a winner and as they pushed on the game opened up giving Leeds a couple of chances to snatch the win also but the Huddersfield defence held firm.
A much improved performance after two defeats in a row, although three points could have seen them go fourth, mid table sixth position at the half way stage of the season is solid progress.
