HDHC 1 – 1 Old Malton
Huddersfield were rightly nervous coming into this game against table- toppers Old Malton on the back of two poor performances. However, at a wet and windy Lockwood Park the team put up its best performance of the season so far.
From the push back it became obvious this would be a highly physical contest, especially in the midfield where a slightly altered formation gave Huddersfield a far more solid look. Andy Christie, battling a heavy cold as well as a skillful opposition, and Luke Kelly produced some determined tackling, but after 20 minutes Old Malton broke the deadlock after a skillful run and finish past a static defence. Within minutes Huddersfield levelled with debutant Pritchard neatly flicking in from a short corner move.
In the second period Old Malton pressed hard, with only some quite superb saves by goalkeeper McCallum keeping the scores level. Several times he raced to the top of the ‘D’ to smother an attack while producing one stunning full stretch stick save after a blistering Old Malton shot seemed destined for the top corner of his net. However it was a rare attack from Huddersfield that nearly won the game, when a Maddaford penalty corner was stopped on the line by an Old Malton foot, but unfortunately Kelly’s resultant penalty flick was saved. Overall though, a fine result for Huddersfield.
