HDHC 2 – 1 Ben Rhydding
Huddersfield took the points from a well fought match which saw few goal scoring opportunities from either side. Huddersfield were overwhelmed by Ben Rhydding at the start although the visiting side were unable to make any real ground. Man of the Match Ashley Cooke provided some extra flair to the game, with some long, winding runs but all were snubbed out by the Ben Rhydding back line. After a few wasted opportunities, the breakthrough came with only moments left in the first half; when Martin Laithwaite collected the ball top ‘D’ and placed the ball into the bottom corner.
The second half was an improvement from Huddersfield’s point of view, as the passing greatly improved, but still the team created few goal scoring opportunities. Ben Rhydding were able to counter a break down of a Huddersfield corner and capitalise to draw the scores level. However, the match was won for Huddersfield as Martin Laithwaite calmly scored a penalty flick, given after Gary Clarkes shot was stopped on the line with the back of the opposition players stick.
Huddersfield will hope for an improved performance next week, but the three crucial points edge them closer to the promotion places.
