Leeds 1 – 2 HDHC
Another fine team performance from Huddersfield who were missing star striker Liz Green this week. Dragons came out breathing fire against a young, fit Leeds side and were soon rewarded for their hard work and persistence when a through ball from Sarah Walters found Lisa Middleton who’s initial shot was saved by the Leeds keeper but Middleton kept going and put away the rebound.
Leeds came out strongly in the second half and Huddersfield seemed to let this disrupt their game, however, the defence stood strong and kept out a succession of short corners from the home side. Leeds eventually found space in open play and pulled one back to level the scores. This gave the Dragons the wake up call they needed and they pulled together with some excellent passing from defence, through midfield to find Nikki Bagshaw and Middleton up front. A quickly taken free hit by Rebecca Hargreaves put Dragons on the attack and Middleton once again found the back of the net. With minutes to go Dragons had all the attack and intelligent play by Leanne Monchuk ensured the Dragons came away with a win, keeping them in the second promotion spot of Yorkshire Division 1.
