Ladies 1XI (H) Blackburn Northern 14/11/2009

HDHC 3 – 3 Blackburn Northern

The ladies Dragons 1s had a real battle on their hands this Saturday at home against Blackburn. Things looked pretty even on the field for the majority of the 1st half, though Dragons weren’t showing their usual flair which eventually resulted in a goal for the opposition. It didn’t take long for Dragons to answer at the other end of the pitch through Amanda Sowerby, levelling the scores. However, Blackburn struck again with their second goal being perhaps the unluckiest goal of the season, a fast ball in finding the only attacker’s stick, popping high into the air and falling down over the line.

The half time team talk roused the Dragon’s spirits and they came out looking like a different team in the second half, holding majority possession and playing some smart hockey. However a slip up from a break led to another Blackburn goal and at 3-1 down with not long on the clock, things were looking bad. But that fiery spirit kept burning and the home team answered Blackburn’s goal with two of their own from Michelle Dexter and Laura Thomas, making the final score 3-3. A fine performance from Hannah Higginbottom earned her player of the match.

A point then, for the ladies 1s, who will be looking to add 3 more to that against Northern away next week.

Player of match – Hannah Higginbottom

Fool of day – Laura Benson

Goal(s) – Sowerby, Dexter, Thomas
