Mens 1XI (A) Leeds University 24/10/2009

Leeds University 2 – 9 HDHC

Huddersfield won their 2nd successive game with a resounding win away to Leeds University 2nd XI.  Leeds looked quick and skilful and had much the better of the first half as Huddersfield looked tentative as they came to terms with the bouncy pitch.  Huddersfield gave away possession far too easily, in fact if Leeds had been able to convert their chances Huddersfield would have been chasing the game from an early stage.  However it was Rich Lovatt who opened the scoring for Huddersfield with a reverse stick shot for 1-0 at half time.

The second half couldn’t have been more different once Huddersfield surrendered the lead when Leeds scored form a short corner, they scored 3 goals in five minutes to take a firm hold on the game.  Jimmy Swinden tapped in at the far post and Rich Lovatt scored twice more to complete his hat trick.  Leeds briefly had a glimmer of hope as they got a second but some good saves from Paul Howarth set Huddersfield up for another devastating burst.

Jimmy Swinden capped a man of the match performance scoring three more second half goals, two powerful shots from the edge of the D and the pick a solo run and a stunning shot into the roof of the net leaving the keeper routed to the spot.  Leeds were shell shocked and Huddersfield took advantage as Hirst scored from close range and Rob Kelly completed the scoring with a powerful reverse stick shot to give a very one sided look to the score line although the Huddersfield passing at times cut Leeds apart and they could have had more.

Huddersfield have 3 wins from 5 now and hold a solid fifth position in their first North 2 East league season.
