Ladies 1XI (A) Kendal 24/10/2009

Kendal 2 – 2 HDHC

The ladies 1s had a roller coaster of a match this, playing away against Kendal.  The home team opened the scoring in the first few minutes of the match, extinguishing the fire in some of the Dragons.  The first half was fraught with umpire warnings, tempers and tough play, all of which contributed to the scoreline still reading 1-0 at half time.

In the second half the Dragons seemed to regain their team spirit and Kelly Fillingham scored their first goal with a quick reaction on a short corner rebound.  The defense worked hard at the back to put down the breaks when they came and eventually Amanda Sowerby had the chance to drive into the D and reverse flick an unbelievable goal into the net that saw her voted Player of the Match.  It wasn’t quite enough however as a few minutes later Kendal equalised from a short corner.

Both teams battled out the final minutes, both suffering from players lost to yellow cards, but the scores remained deadlocked and the full time whistle gave each team a point.  The Dragons now have a week off to regain their composure and come out fighting for a tough fixture away at top of the league Lancaster on the 7th November.

Player of match – Amanda Sowerby
