Mens 2XI (H) Kingston Upon Hull 26/09/2009

HDHC 2 – 1 Kingston Upon Hull

The second game in Yorkshire division two gave HDHC men’s 2XI their first three points. In a game that would have been better staged in a UFC ring, Huddersfield kept there composure and temper focusing on hockey whilst Hull combusted around them.

For the first half the teams were very level with the majority of the play being between the two 23’s. A sequence of malicious challenges from some of Hull’s more experienced players ruffled the Dragons whom at times rightly thought it was going to be one of those days. A stale period was summed up when at half time neither keeper had made a save.

Dragons have fire in their bellies and came out for the second half with a different aura about them, straight from the off creating more chances and keeping better possession and territory. Within ten minutes they were rewarded for their endeavours when Haigh pounced on a well weighted through ball, hitting it on the half volley from the top of the area, beating the keeper low on his right. Huddersfield kept pushing and on 55 minutes came the second, a strong pass from Richardson found Clark free five metres out to deflect the ball through the keepers legs. Megs!!

Hull pulled back a consolation with seconds of the game remaining, the defence switched off allowing Hull to move freely into the area and slot the ball past an exasperated Cowden.

Another good performance from the Dragons whom next week face local rivals Wakefield at College Grove.

Man of match – Ed Shimmel

Fool of day – Neil Harris

Goal(s) – Haigh, Clark
